District of North Saanich announces new CAO

Tim Tanton brings more than 20 years of municipal, regional experience to new role

After a five-month recruitment process, Tim Tanton is the new chief administrative officer for the District of North Saanich.

According to a release from the District, Tanton brings more than two decades of municipal and regional experience to the table having previously worked as the director of Infrastructure Services for the District as well as in the Integrated Water Services department at the CRD.

He will vacate his current role as director of Development Services, Engineering, Parks and Works for the Town of Sidney when he begins his role as CAO, Jan. 7, 2019.

A professional engineer, Tanton also holds a masters degree in public administration.

More than 80 applicants from across Canada expressed interest in the position requiring council to work with a consultant to narrow the list.

“Council was very impressed with the high caliber of candidates,” Mayor Geoff Orr said in a statement. “We’re confident that Tim is the right choice for this critical position and brings with him considerable skill, passion and familiarity with North Saanich and the Saanich Peninsula.”

Tanton will fill the role recently vacated by Rob Buchan who announced his retirement in October after eight years in the position.
