Last year, a local architect representing an Ontario Pension Fund, tried to assemble a group of buildings in the heart of Sidney, including the Town Hall, to develop a strata development. Apparently, approved in principle, by the town, the development was thwarted by members of the Army and Navy, who refused to join as a key component,

I live close to the Victoria Airport and enjoy most of what goes on there. I occasionally have a coffee and watch the various activities. The larger aircraft go about their business and that is fine.

LETTER: Canada’s 150th should be a reality check

I care about and appreciate the amazing province we live in and am concerned about its ongoing welfare. How will we be accountable to future generations if we do not initiate to protect what we have and continue to ”take” for granted, greed and short term gain?

Did Canada really have its “coming of age” at Vimy Ridge? What is meant by “coming of age” anyway? Are the celebrations of the 100 year anniversary of the 4 day battle at Vimy just glorification of war, and part of the war tourism trend? Is all this hype about the gathering at the Vimy Memorial just the media? Did Canada have more “coming of age” later on at Dieppe, Juno Beach, Bosnia, or even Kandahar Province? Why is “coming of age” an event of war?

There’s a lot of noise from the chattering classes regarding fake news, and reference to alternative facts, that have become part and parcel of reportage from the White House. Fake news reports came thick and fast during the 2016 presidential campaign, many generated on various social media and alternative media sites about leading candidates in both political parties.
