Where's Thanksgiving

Recently, as Thanksgiving approached, I went shopping for appropriate decorations for our celebration table, as I had when our children were young.

Now I hoped to repeat the ambience for our four-year-old grandson to help reinforce the lessons he learned at nursery school and at home, about the true and important meaning of the day.

I went to every store from Sidney to Brentwood Bay that I thought might carry what I was looking for. What shocked me was what I found. There was a limited amount of stock available that pertained to this occasion.

Instead, I was overwhelmed by aisle after aisle of ghoulish Halloween stuff.

There were masks, scary glasses, costumes, window decorations, ghostly ornaments, pages of stickers, skeleton images, scads of goodie bags, and oodles of packages of Trick or Treat surprises.

There’s something wrong with this picture.

Let’s get our priorities in order.

Lois Gray,

Sidney
