One chapter ends, another begins

Sidney North Saanich RCMP columnist for Peninsula News Review says goodbye

My family and I have been on the Peninsula now for over six years. Time has sure flown by and it doesn’t seem that long. This is the longest we have ever stayed in a community, with most postings lasting only a few years, then having to move on.

I am sad to say we are now moving on again, and will be leaving this wonderful community in the coming weeks. New challenges await all of us at my new posting in Duncan, but we are really excited for the change and for this new stage in our lives.

Late last year, the editor and I sat down for coffee and came up with the idea for this column, hoping it would be beneficial to police-community relations. I think we have accomplished that, and I really appreciate the positive feedback I have received from many of you. I really wanted to share some of my experiences with you, experiences I have gathered from so many different places in my career. In sharing these experiences and thoughts, I hoped to give you a human side to the officers in your community and a taste of what policing is like.

Cpl. Erin Fraser will be the new face of Sidney North Saanich RCMP and will be moving in to my role at the detachment. She has been one of our supervisors for several years now and many of you may know her already. She will be continuing with this column and my other media duties and I am sure will do quite well.

My family became a part of the Peninsula by living, playing, working and going to school here and we wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Cpl. Chris Swain is a supervisor and the media liaison officer for Sidney North Saanich RCMP.
