I am a senior of 93 years of age and have lived in Sidney since 1981.

Wanted to share a very pleasant experience I had late Friday afternoon, Oct. 19.

I had been at Save-On foods and wanted to return to St. Andrews Abbeyfield House on Fifth Street in Sidney.

The courtesy desk at Save-0n Foods called Sidney Taxi on my behalf and was informed that a taxi would be there in three minutes. Therefore, I went outside to wait – and saw a taxi already parked outside the store. The front seat was vacant, so I opened the door and started to get in – stating my destination at a retirement home for seniors – and waited for the driver to put my walker in the back of his vehicle.

The driver said to me – “I already have a passenger” – at which point a woman in the back seat said: “My husband is in the store and will be right back – we are going to the Surly Mermaid for dinner and we will drop you off at your destination.” Which they did.

When I started to pay the driver, he said: “That couple have already paid your fare.”

Wanted to acknowledge this generous and thoughtful act of kindness.

Emmy Secord

Sidney
