In loving memory ~
It is with sadness that Norma's family announce her peaceful passing in Campbell River, BC. She was 91.
Predeceased by her husband, James Aitken, in 2007, she leaves behind her children, Darlene Zamluk (Dave), Dennis Aitken (Laura), Leanne Parsons (Jack); grandchildren, Jamie Zamluk (Jennie), Jeff Zamluk (Aileen), Amanda Smith (Jon), Chelsea Aitken, Troy Parsons (Keilen), and Chantelle Cameron (Ty); great grandchildren, Nate, Asher, Kai, Waylon, and Navy. Also, sisters, Bev Ferrier, Muriel Miller (Merrill) and many nieces and nephews.
Norma was born in High River, AB, on October 2, 1930, to parents Orville and Annie Scobie. She had fond memories of growing up on a farm near Cayley, AB, often reminiscing about life on the farm. As a young woman she attended college in Olds. AB and Mt. Royal College in Calgary. It was at a dance in Calgary she met her husband, Jim. After marrying in 1951 they shared a life in the Armed Forces, moving numerous times to various bases in Canada while raising a family of three. In 1969 Sidney BC became their permanent home after Jim retired from the RCAF. There Norma established roots creating a vibrant social life with family and friends. She was involved in church activities, stitchery groups, the Vagabond Trailer club, and Eastern Star.
Norma had a lifelong passion for needlework, especially smocking. She lovingly stitched her children and grandchildren wonderful outfits. In her retirement, she was immersed in a family genealogy project which resulted in her publishing a book that will be accessible for generations to come. She also owned Sidney Florist for a short time, an accomplishment that she was proud of.
Above all, Norma loved her family dearly. She will be lovingly remembered for her caring nature, wit, and support. It never wavered.
Her family is grateful she is now at peace.
Norma's family would like to acknowledge that it was comforting to know she was lovingly cared for by the staff at Evergreen Seniors Care in Campbell River for the last five years supporting her during her journey with Alzheimer's.
A celebration of life will be arranged in January. Details TBA.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish to donate in Norma's memory, the family asks that donations be sent to: Alzheimer's Society of BC, towards research, at,; or Evergreen Seniors Care, E 635 Evergreen Rd, Campbell River, BC, V9W 3R7.
