Last Friday morning, residents in the area received a letter from the Town of Sidney giving notice of work to start later that day.
Most of the fittings and frames have now been ripped out and deposited in a big pile at the front of the building. The operation has potentially been complicated by the presence of a bird’s nest on the roof.
“Town staff were recently made aware of a seagull nest on the roof of the old fire hall building,” says Andrew Hicik, Director of Corporate Services. “Staff contacted the property owner and confirmed that they were already aware of the nest and had plans to protect it or relocate it as per senior government regulations, due to the planned demolition of the building.”
Residents are warned to expect noise and mild traffic inconvenience Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
