Impaired hit and run
A man earned a driving suspension after an apparent hit and run in Saanichton April 13. Central Saanich Police were called around 5 p.m. for a report of a driver who hit a parked car in the 2500 block of Mount Newton X Road then proceeded to a nearby gas station. Police located the driver and after observing signs of impairment, provided a roadside screening. The Saanichton man failed the screening and was issued a 90-day driving suspension and 30-day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle was towed.
Hospital visit
A report of youths apparently intoxicated and combative drew Central Saanich Police to the 1200 block of Clarke Road shortly before 7 p.m. on April 16. When officers discovered three youths in the 1100 block of Lucille Drive, one was on the ground vomiting. Police called medical aid, and two of the youths were subsequently taken to hospital as a precaution. They also called the parents.
Not so lucky
Officers poured out beer in Brentwood Bay April 16. Shortly after 7 p.m. Central Saanich Police were called to the library parking lot for a report of five adults with a 15-pack of Lucky. As they were drinking in public, police poured out the beer and seized the remaining liquor.
Sideways
A woman passed out in the back seat of a car drew the attention of officers during a vehicle stop near Island View and Saanich Cross roads around 2:25 a.m. on April 18. They called an ambulance to check out the passenger. The man driving the vehicle showed signs of impairment and after a roadside screening was issued a 30-day roadside suspension and the vehicle was towed. A third passenger was offered a ride home by officers and became combative, police said. He was lodged in cells overnight for being intoxicated in public.
For security reasons
A Central Saanich resident took what turned out to be the right path when he got a call from Manitoba claiming to be Medical Services Plan. The caller asked for his birthdate “for security reasons” and the resident refused “for security reasons.” Central Saanich Police later confirmed that the call did not come from MSP.
Swiped at school
A Stelly’s student is bike-less after his wheels were swiped at school. The three-month-old bike was stolen April 18. The almost-new Brody Tempyst is valued at around $900.
