More panties, fewer books in Sidney

With unmentionables expanding, a pair of booksellers will disappear.

With unmentionables expanding, a pair of booksellers will disappear.

Paperback Writer and Time Enough for Books, which share a space on Beacon Avenue, will close Feb. 15 as long-time Sidney lingerie shop Sweet Talk n’ Lace is enhanced.

“We’re actually quite tight in our little lingerie store. It’s an opportunity to provide more room for staff and customers,” said owner Marie Rosko. “[It will] also provide additional change room which we had not been able to provide in the store.”

The two stores that share the space will close rather than relocate.

“We can’t find a place to go to,” said owner Clive Tanner. “Our experience there has been very good on the main street and we can’t find a suitable space.”

So they’re holding a blowout sale, then leftover inventory will head to Beacon Books, also owned by Tanner.

“We’ll have a sale and sell a lot of books at a very good price.”

Tanner and his wife are also the brains behind Sidney as a Booktown (www.sidneybooktown.ca) which boasted 12 titles before the two close.

“We’re going to lose two but we did gain one,” Tanner said.

Period Fine Bindings opened recently in a space near Fairway market.

“While we’re losing two we do pick up one we’re down to 11 now,” Tanner said.
