A 25-year-old North Saanich man was sentenced to three months in jail, Sept. 1 after he pushed a 79-year-old Sidney man to the ground.

The incident occurred on March 25 around noon when the older man was knocked down as he left a business near Second Street and Beacon Avenue.

The Sidney man hit his head on the ground and was treated by ambulance at the scene.

Witnesses said the suspect pushed the elder man for no reason, then ran up Beacon Avenue.

“Before fleeing, the suspect also threatened a witness that had stopped to render assistance to the elderly man,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Chris Swain said at the time.

Sidney North Saanich RCMP were able to locate the suspect after speaking to witnesses and reviewing security camera footage from nearby businesses that captured video of the suspect and his companion running away from the assault.
