Man convicted in horse death accused of breaching conditions

David Whiffin of Brentwood Bay due back in court for allegedly breaching conditions, including not owning animals

A Peninsula man will appear in court again June 14 facing charges of breaching a court order.

Earlier this year David Whiffin of Brentwood Bay was fined $7,500 after being convicted of cruelty to an animal for failing to provide enough food to a horse in 2009. He was also prohibited from owning any animals for five years.

He is charged with breaching that order.

Last December, Judge Sue Wishart found Whiffin and his co-accused, Clayton Cunningham, guilty of causing unnecessary pain and suffering to an animal, as well as improper care of feeding after an SPCS investigation into the death by hanging of Jalupae, a 27-year-old Appaloosa gelding.

Whiffin is to appear in court again June 14.
