Highway 4 east of Port Alberni will be closed “intermittently” as a wildfire burning near Cameron Lake has grown to an estimated 109 hectares.
The highway was closed off and on Tuesday, June 6 due to a wildfire burning on Cameron Bluffs, across from Cameron Lake. The fire is listed as out of control by the BC Wildfire Service, which means it is continuing to spread and is not responding to suppression efforts.
The BC Wildfire Service says crews are working on the incident and helicopters are bucketing inaccessible areas. Airtankers and skimmers are also supporting.
DriveBC is warning drivers not to stop on the highway to view the wildfire. No structures are currently threatened, but BC Wildfire Service warns that Highway 4 may be impacted “intermittently.”
