UPDATE: Highway 1 reopens after Langford crash

Crash involving truck and trailer loaded with gravel

The Trans-Canada Highway has reopened after a southbound dump truck crash near Spencer Road.

DriveBC tweeted that the southbound lanes, which were closed between Leigh and Millstream roads for more than three hours, had reopened at 12:45 p.m.

The truck was towing a trailer with gravel when the driver lost control due to slippery road conditions. Both the truck and the trailer flipped, after colliding with concrete barriers on the shoulder of the roadway.

The driver of the truck was taken to hospital for assessment after suffering minor injuries.

Tow truck crews had righted the truck as of 11 a.m. Emcon Services Inc.’s south Island division tweeted shortly before 1 p.m., noting that crews would be working in the area to clean up the gravel that had fallen onto the shoulder of the highway.

“We want to thank motorists for their patience as traffic was delayed in the area,” West Shore RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Nancy Saggar said in a statement.

One driver was ticketed after they went through the police blockade for failure to obey police directions.
