Elizabeth May was arrested and escorted from the Kinder Morgan protest at Burnaby Mountain on Friday.
Locally, MP Randall Garrison of Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke held a protest at his Kinder Morgan pipeline community office this morning.
May and New Democrat MP Kennedy Stewart were both processed by RCMP officers in a tent at the Trans Mountain pipeline terminal in Burnaby where they protested the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.
Protests were held elsewhere on Friday, all in unity against the expansion.
More than 200 protesters arrived at MP Randall Garrison’s community office to voice their opposition to the Kinder Morgan pipeline project on Friday.
Garrison supports evidence that a 15 percent spill recovery and a spill response time of six hours is unacceptable.
“Kinder Morgan should never have been approved,” said Garrison, who has been vocal in his opposition of the pipeline. “The seven-fold increase in tanker traffic through our waters is not something that we can accept. One spill could destroy traditional food and ceremonial fisheries of four First Nations and tens of thousands of jobs in recreational fishing, tourism, and whale watching that depend on the clean environment.”
