A restaurant owner took pity on a person who smashed glasses and caused a disturbance in their Oak Bay business March 19.
The owner called police around 4:30 p.m. to report a drunk woman throwing things, breaking two glasses, after being refused alcohol because she was deemed too intoxicated.
Officers arrested a 27-year-old woman for mischief and held her in custody until she was sober enough to care for herself, the Oak Bay Police Department said in its weekly news brief.
The woman was released to appear in court with conditions not to attend the restaurant.
A few days later, the owner of the business opted not to pursue charges, as the woman was promptly removed from the business by police, spent the night in police cells and there was minimal damage.
It was among the 67 calls for service to the Oak Bay police during the week of March 18 to 24.

Dropped call
A cell company staffer thwarted a fake phone purchase after an Oak Bay resident fell victim to a credit card scam.
A resident called police March 20 to report the fraud.
The person had received a phone call from someone claiming to be Rogers Wireless about an outstanding debt. The resident paid the fake fee over the phone using their credit card. When the scammer attempted to use the credit card to purchase a phone through another wireless company, the employee there suspected fraud and contacted the card holder. The resident promptly cancelled their credit card avoiding charges.

15 drivers face $368 tickets
ICBC and police around the province are cracking down on distracted driving this month.
Oak Bay police issued six phone-related tickets in an hour at the intersection of Oak Bay Avenue and Foul Bay Road on March 5. That push continues in the month-long campaign that aims to combat distracted driving with police amping up enforcement.
During the past week, the Oak Bay police issued 21 tickets – 15 of them for using an electronic device while driving which comes with a $368 fine. Officers intend to continue amplified enforcement.
