The event raised more than $52,000 by Sunday afternoon

Approximately 1,000 people took part in the 43rd annual Terry Fox Run in Victoria.

The event, which took place on Sunday (Sept. 17), raised money for the Terry Fox Foundation to help fund cancer research.

More than $52,000 was donated to the cause by Sunday afternoon.

“Thank you to everyone who gave money,” Victoria Mayor Marianne Alto said at the event. “We wouldn’t be here without you. It’s breathtaking to see so many people here. Terry Fox really is an icon and progress is happening with cancer research.”

The five-kilometre run kicked off near the Terry Fox statue on Dallas Road.

“People can walk, cycle or run,” event co-organizer Linda Johnstone said. “This is just so awesome. Our volunteers really make this happen.”

Those interested in donating can do so at run.terryfox.ca.
