The first four ferries from the Lower Mainland to southern Vancouver Island are full up as sailings backed up Sunday (Feb. 25).

Two trips each way were cancelled due to mechanical issues with the Queen of New Westminster, BC Ferries announced Thursday (Feb. 22).

Replacement parts were set to arrive within the next few days, BC Ferries said in a statement announcing the Thursday, Friday and Sunday cancellations.

BC Ferries alerted travelers all sailings were full Sunday just before 7 p.m. The first Monday sailing with space out of Tsawwassen and bound for Vancouver Island is at 3 p.m.

The first ferry out of Swartz Bay in North Saanich is full, with the next sailing showing 16 per cent space available as of 6:30 a.m.
