Jump into spring with local sax

Saanich Peninsula sax players anchor the Swiftsure Big Band’s Jumpin’ to Spring dance.

Five saxophone players with more than 200 years of combined Big Band experience provide the smooth sounds of the sax section. Led by Rob Bannister, an alto and tenor sax player, and Bill Munro the leader of the sax section, the group also includes Jim Kingham on alto, Bob Dorion on tenor and Kate Maggag on baritone sax.

All live on the Sannich Peninsula.

Jumpin’ into Spring will be held on March 5 at the Edelweiss Hall on Niagara Street in Victoria.

Acknowledging requests from their loyal patrons, the 19-piece orchestra will kick up the tempo for this event.

“We’ll turn up the heat for our dancers for this occasion,” said Bannister, the music director of the group. “The floor at the Edelwiess is great and over the years we’ve seen some outstanding dancers enjoying our live presentation.”

Miranda Sage will perform S’Wonderful, Almost Like Being In Love and some new and exciting material.

Downbeat is at 8 p.m. The group provides nonstop music for listening and dancing, normally performing between 35 to 45 hits from the Big Band Era before the night ends.

Tickets are available at Long and McQuade, Larsens Music, and MusicWorks in Sidney.
