Guild seeks Island song creators

The Cowichan Folk Guild 2011 Islands Songwriting contest closes on June 6.

The theme of the contest is Music and Community. “We’re looking for a great song which tells us about your home town or how music has played an important part in your community,” said Robert McCourty, the guild’s artistic director.  The contest is open to all ages and is not based on the idol model. “We have an incredible amount of talent in this part of BC, all packed into the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island. There are literally thousands of musicians and singer songwriters. This contest is for them. We’re not looking for the prettiest songwriter, we’re looking for the best song,” said McCourty.

Full contest regulations and a printable registration form are available on the Cowichan Folk Guild’s website at  www.folkfest.bc.ca.
