The Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre recently recognized their volunteers with an appreciation night.
The centre has 150 volunteers ranging in age from 11 to 83. Since opening on June 20, 2009 volunteers have put in an average of 1,000 hours every month to help run the aquarium.
Volunteers with more than 500 hours since opening include Mikes Patterson, Cath Martin and Perry Connolly.
William MacDonald, a Bayside middle school student, was awarded the SODC's Jean Simpson Award for displaying great visitor relations in a friendly manner. MacDonald has worked almost every Sunday since the SODC opened.
