A trio of gulls is back making a ruckus in the wild after being released from the Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre (Wild ARC) recently.
The three gulls landed at the Metchosin centre for different reasons, including unnecessary human intervention, being caught by a predator, dehydration and visible wounds. The gulls spent at least a week at Wild ARC receiving specialized treatment for their individual needs to develop the skills needed to survive on their own, the agency said in a social media post.
The same post includes video of the release, with the healthy birds hopping out of a carrier before winging off over the water.
The only wildlife rehabilitation centre on the south Island, Wild ARC staff and volunteers treated 2,459 animals last year.
