The District of North Saanich is inviting residents to have their say about the future of the Briarwood Place beach access.

The review of the Ardmore neighbourhood beach was directed by council and will consider everything from safety to accessibility, servicing, recreation, and environmental stewardship.

In a release, the district said the beach has become popular over the years due to its natural beauty, ease of access with only a short trail and no stairs, and gradual entry into the water which makes for good swimming and paddle sports launching. But the site has limited available parking, which the district said has led area residents and visitors to raise concerns.

“The district has a strong commitment to improving safety in balance with access to the waterfront for all ages and abilities,” said Ben Martin, director of infrastructure services. “During peak times in summer, we are experiencing conflicts related to parking and clear access. We have heard concerns from nearby residents, and we want to better understand the issues and opportunities to enhance everyone’s experience for the long term.”

The district is inviting residents to fill out an online survey to help gain an understanding of how the beach is used, concerns, and ideas residents have for it, and help council set priorities. The survey is available at connctnorthsaanich.ca/briarwood-beach.
