Local towns raise money for food bank

When Janet Parker put the call out, municipalities responded to help out the Sidney Lions Food Bank

When Janet Parker put the call out, the municipalities of Sidney and North and Central Saanich responded to help out the Sidney Lions Food Bank. Parker, an employee with the Town of Sidney and who works with Central Saanich as well, challenged all three municipal offices to raise money for the food bank.

Food bank manager Bev Elder says over a period of approximately two weeks, the offices raised almost $3,000 — $1,052.07 from Sidney, $880 from North Saanich and $991.50 from Central Saanich.

“Since we can turn every dollar into two of product, this money is going to go a long way,” she said.

The food bank needs coffee, juice, hot chocolate and the basics: meat, eggs and dairy products.
