The Mary Winspear Centre and more specifically the Charlie White Theatre have a busy fall season lined up.
“We have so many great shows coming up and we’re really looking forward to it,” said Theatre Manager Phil Sutton.
Over the month of August, the theatre has undergone maintenance to the lighting and sound systems to get it ready for the busy season.
In 2010, money from Charlie White’s estate was allotted to purchasing a new sound system and lights for the theatre.
While a soundboard was purchased and installed that year, the Centre decided to wait to upgrade the lighting until LED technology improved. Late last summer, the new lighting was installed and all systems were a go.
This month, technicians (including a few students through the Canada Summer Jobs initiative) have been working overtime, Sutton said, to make improvements to the system which was virtually dismantled for the filming of The Bachelor in November 2012.
“When Bachelor Canada came in we took down everything and they re-hung for the show,” Sutton explained.
“We then had to put it all back up but it wasn’t done to completion. Now what we’re doing is really consolidating the system, cleaning and focusing the lights and channels and making sure the sound system is correct in each section.”
Sutton said the revamped system will be clearer and easier to use for both in-house and visiting technicians.
Some of the highlights of the fall season at the theatre, he said, will include a U2 tribute band, singer and songwriter Bif Naked, Colin James and Glass Tiger.
“It’s going to be great,” Sutton said.
