2nd ever Design Victoria festival elevates local design and creativity

The four-day festival includes exhibits, events, workshops, films, and discussions

After its launch in 2023, Design Victoria – a four-day festival elevating the city’s growing design community – will be double its previous size when it returns May 9-12.

The festival covers interior, architecture, urban, landscape, graphic, illustration, fashion, product, lighting, furniture, software, and ceramic design.

It includes more than 30 free events with new notable additions like the Downtown Design Trail. The curated trail will guide visitors around downtown retail locations of independent and emerging designers, including a feature talk on landscape design at the newly opened Gabriel Ross downtown showroom.

Designers and design businesses will create special installations, exhibitions, events, open houses, tours and workshops. Visitors will also get exclusive access to creative studios that are not normally open to the public.

Additional events include Craigdarroch Castle’s exhibition of contemporary furniture by students, faculty and alumni of the Camosun Fine Furniture program; a film screening by Soviet Bus Stops; a grand opening featuring Zambris and Herald Street Brew Works at Lamella Flooring; and family-friendly workshops for creative children by dHKarchitects and Cascadia.

Design Victoria attracted over 3,000 attendees last year.

Most of Design Victoria’s events are free to attend and open to everyone, though some require registration. Programming details, including a map of events and listings, is available at designvictoria.ca.
