Rest Haven Lodge staff and residents held their heads high for a head shave event.
Two staff members and three volunteers at the assisted living centre are currently undergoing cancer treatment and the staff decided to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Tour de Rock to show their support.
“There are a number of cancer survivors among the residents and staff too,” said Myrna Fox, activities coordinator.
Five staff members including June Curtis, Eric Guimmayen, Bev Lewis, Joe Mendoza and Joy Scutt had their heads shaved, with resident Tom Holmes joining them. Staff member Roy Hunt allowed Alana Delcourt of Fresh Esthetics Studio to wax his chest for the cause, to the merriment of dozens of residents who gathered to watch.
The head shaving was performed by Rest Haven’s in-house hairdressing team of Susan and Sian Lewis. The group raised more than $2,800 which will be formally presented to the Tour de Rock team at the Sidney celebration at Beacon Park on Oct. 6.
