For the third year in row, Stantec Sidney will be putting on a fundraiser for the Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock.

“We were inspired to do it after one of our execs watched his neighbour go though the training,” explained Jacky Stevens, who works at the office. “He was blown away by what the riders were doing for the cause and was inspired to do something to benefit it.”

Over the past few years, Stantec has raised thousands for the cause. In 2010 they raised $10,000 and last year they raised $15,000.

“We’re hoping to make this year the biggest yet but we are also conscious that a lot of businesses and people are facing tougher economic times than in past years,” said Stevens. “We’re just hoping to raise any amount we can to benefit the ride and the cause it supports.”

The fundraiser will take place at the Stantec Sidney office (2042 Mills Rd.) on Oct. 4 and will kick off with a barbecue lunch at noon. The Tour de Rock riders will pay a visit to the festivities at 2:20 p.m.

“We close off the parking lot and have the barbecue going with hot dogs and pop by donation,” said Stevens. “We also have a dunk tank where people can make donations to dunk one of the execs, so it makes for a great afternoon where people can pop in, give a donation and enjoy the festivities.”
