Santa Slam tourney at Mount Doug feature’s top AAA boys teams

Santa Slam basketball tournament starts Thursday at Mount Douglas

This week the Mount Douglas Rams are hosting the annual Santa Slam senior boys basketball tournament.

Returning are last year’s winners, the Wellington Wildcats, and finalists Reynolds Roadrunners, as well as Royal Bay, Nanaimo District (4A), Mark Isfeld, GP Vanier and Carihi.

Early season 3A rankings (by Sportvictoria.com) have Mark Isfeld as the No. 1 seed on the Island, with Carihi the second, G.P. Vanier fourth, Wellington fifth, Reynolds sixth and Royal Bay seventh.

Nanaimo is ranked third on the Island for 4A, with the Rams ranked eighth.

Games run Thursday through Saturday.
