Royals and Jr. B Braves back in action tonight after respective losses

Victoria Royals fell 4-2 to the Spokane Chiefs, play 7:05 p.m., Saanich Braves slip to Campbell River Storm, play 7:30 p.m. at Pearkes arena

The Campbell River Storm brought their first round Island junior B series with the Saanich Braves back to even, winning Game 4 in Campbell River 6-3 on Tuesday.

Junior veteran Brett Willsie scored twice to lead the Storm, with Ty Jones, James Kellington and Nick Vanstone each scoring for the Braves.

Game 5 goes tonight, 7:30 p.m. at Pearkes.

The Braves will welcome back all-star defenceman Brandon Parmar to the line-up. Parmar was absent on Tuesday.

Playoffs still not a sure thing for the Royals

It is said that for bubble teams like the Victoria Royals, the playoffs start long before the season ends.

As such, Tuesday’s 4-2 loss to the Spokane Chiefs could be seen as a small setback if the Royals can eke out a win tonight, 7:05 p.m. at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

The Royals (20-36-6) remain in seventh place with 46 points, ahead of the eight-place Seattle Thunderbirds (44 pts), ninth-place Everett Silvertips (43 pts) and last-place Prince George Cougars (40).

It seems safe for now, but the Royals’ have a daunting schedule ahead with Vancouver Giants in town for two games this weekend, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

It doesn’t get any easier with the road games against the Giants and Kelowna Rockets, as well as two must-win games in Everett, from March 7 to 11. The Royals then end the regular season at home with two games against the Portland Winterhawks, who currently sit one point back of first in the WHL.

Dakota Conroy and Jamie Crooks scored in Tuesday’s loss.
