Sixteen boats took part in a race Sunday, part of the Canoe Bay Racing Club’s summer series of events off of Sidney.

The boats were from the Canoe Bay Club and the Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club. They raced from the wharf in Sidney (at the end of Beacon Avenue), out to Ker Island and Sidney Spit, and back again to the wharf.

Organizers said they had planned a longer race, but light winds on the day forced them to reduce the number of laps made by each boat.

The Canoe Bay Racing Club now begins its winter series — which, hopefully, will see more breezes.
