With their backs against the wall, the Peninsula Panthers are working their way back. The Panthers won game four in the best-of-seven series against the Victoria Cougars to determine the top team in the VIJHL.
The Victoria Cougars took a quick three-game lead to force a must-win situation for the Peninsula players who took it to heart and won 4-2 Monday night. Cole Peterson and Zach Mazo spotted the Panthers a 2-0 lead but the Cougars responded with a powerplay goal by Clark Anderson.
Before the Cougars could even it up, Brad Dick scored for the Panthers. Ryan Chan scored Victoria’s second goal, but Panthers’ netminder Nick Babich stopped all 11 shots in the third period. Panther’s captain Evan Campbell sealed the scoring with an empty-netter.
The next game in the series was slated for Thursday (after News Review deadline) in Victoria. Game six, if necessary is at Panorama tonight (March 18) at 7:30 p.m. Game seven, if needed to determine the winner of the Paterson Memorial Trophy, is scheduled for Sunday, March 20, 3 p.m. at Archie Browning Arena in Victoria.
