Kimura five earn new dan

Nine members of the Brentwood Bay Kimura Shukokai Karate Club, including Sensei David Bentley, recently returned from an intense four-day training session in New Jersey with Kimura Shukokai’s four World Chief Instructors. A group of 300-plus karate ka representing 13 different countries and an accumulated 25,000 years of training gathered to learn from the best.

Dojo members Bentley, Norman Ensil, Karen Naylor, Rob Walker and Lida DeBoer successfully passed to the next dan grade — an achievement requiring hours, months and years of training.

April 1 and 2, Sensei Chris Ensil from South Africa will be  teaching in the local Brentwood Bay and Deep Cove dojos. His training will include drills and concepts that prepare karate ka for participation in all styles tournaments. Ensil has a 6th dan black belt in Kimura Shukokai and coaches the South African national All-Styles Karate team.
