Island karate members to represent Canada

Karate stars from Vancouver Island bound for New Jersey competition

A healthy dozen Islanders will represent Canada in karate next month.

The team representing Canada at the 2012 Kimura Shukokai International World Karate Championships in Atlantic City, N.J. from July 8 to 13 will include 12 members from Vancouver Island.

Led by multiple medallist and chief instructor for Western Canada, sensei David Bentley, the team draws on members from KSI karate schools on the Saanich Peninsula, Sooke, Shirley and the Western Communities.

The Kimura Shukokai International World Championships are held every second year and team members have been training hard for the past year in preparation for the 2012 event.
