Greater Victoria football players played key roles in helping a team of young Canadian all-stars beat a squad of top U.S. players, 42-37, at the first USA-Canada U15 Youth Bowl.

The two countries played each other in one of four finals at the second annual Eastbay Youth All-American Bowl, held to showcase many of the United States’ top youth football talent.

In Canada’s game, B.C. players led the charge with Mount Doug secondary school’s Marcus Davis winning Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Game.

Davis totalled 316 yards on offence, scoring two touchdowns. Last year’s star with Mount Doug’s junior team made a 56-yard punt return, stretched out a reception for 82-yards and ran back a kickoff 101 yards for a touchdown.

Quarterback Ashton MacKinnon, also with Mount Doug, was 7-of-8 passing for 148 yards and two TDs.

Victoria was also represented by receiver and defensive back Brian Dowds, who caught a TD and intercepted a pass on defence, and defensive tackle Christian Krause who helped Canada plug up the line of scrimmage.
