Peninsula gymnast Michael Hood can notch another national championship on his belt, after successfully placing in the top 16 at the Canadian Gymnastics Championships, held in Charlottetown from May 23 to 28.

A native of Sidney, Hood, 23, trains at Victoria Gymnastics downtown, but also takes the ferry to Delta Gymnastics around once a week for additional training and competition.

On top of that, he balances being a full-time student at UVic, along with coaching younger gymnasts. He calls the juggling act tough, but said he’s used to it.

The national championships was his final event of the season, so he is now devoting his time to finishing school. As for the future, Hood said he’s still deciding, but is fairly certain he will continuing competing.
