Peninsula Panthers fight for VIJHL title

The Peninsula Panthers made it a sweep of the Comox Valley Glacier Kings, pounding the North Island visitors 5-1 at Panorama Recreation Centre on Monday night.

Major midget callup Brandon Egli scored the first goal and Kyle Peterson and Joe Densmore each scored twice, taking the Panthers to their second-straight VIJHL final.

The defending Paterson Memorial Trophy holders swept the best-of-five series in three straight games starting with a 6-5 overtime win March 4 at home and a 4-1 win in Comox on March 5.

The league championship best-of-seven series between the Panthers and Cougars started on the road at Archie Browning Arena last night, Thursday, after News Review deadline.

Game two is tonight at Panorama. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m. Game three is set for Sunday at Archie Browning Sports Centre, 3 p.m. Game four will be held Monday, March 14 at Panorama Recreation Centre.

Game five, six and seven, if necessary, are scheduled for March 17 at Archie Browning (7:15 p.m.), March 18 at Panorama (7:30 p.m.), Sunday, March 20 at Archie Browning (3 p.m.)
