Vote sends message

I must first preface my comments by saying that I am in no way connected to or a member of any political party, nor am I in any way an environmentalist.

However, I must implore those of my fellow constituents of the Saanich Gulf Islands left to please unite our vote to unseat Gary Lunn.

We have been afforded the opportunity to make history by electing the first Green Party member to Canadian Parliament. Elizabeth May is, I believe, the best candidate for our riding. First, she is a very intelligent woman who is an excellent orator (a skill lost on most of our current politicians).

Second, she will be able to truly represent our riding by not having to follow party lines on votes.

Finally, and most importantly, she will not be muzzled by Mr. Harper. She will be able to bring real issues forward that impact our community without the fear of impunity from the Prime Minister's Office.

There needs to be a clear message sent to Ottawa that we are tired of an arrogant Harper government (formerly known as the government of Canada) that has a complete disregard for the parliamentary process and for the voters of this country.

I, for one, would love a return to the form of representative government that our country was founded on, not the dictatorial regime that we currently have under Mr. Harper. On election day make a choice to alter the way this country is heading, make a choice for change, make a choice that truly allows our voices to be heard and unite the left.

Remember, more than 60 per cent of us did not vote for Mr. Lunn in the last election, and our divisive voting nature allowed him to be elected yet again.

Scott Garnett,

Sidney
