Staff, mayor built promising plan

Sandown proposal was a good one says North Saanich resident

ice Finall and the staff of the District of North Saanich, under the leadership of Rob Buchan, should be commended for the brilliant Sandown proposal. The vision they presented would have been a tremendous asset to the community -- not just the ownership of farmland worth $2.4 million, but also the creation of a tax revenue stream that would have contributed millions to the North Saanich coffers, and the jobs that would have been realized from the commercial development. Perhaps more importantly, the creation of an 83-acre publicly-owned farm would have provided the community with a place to unite over a positive, forward-thinking vision that would have benefitted all residents well into the future. In rejecting this proposal, councillors Browne, Daly, Mearns and McBride gave us nothing but fractiousness and division.
