J. L. Granatstein, a champion of support to the Canadian forces, particularly the army, makes a fundamental error in saying the royal names for the navy and airforce are an anachronism for the military. I beg to differ.

Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian Army are titles rightfully restored that recognize service traditions that were politically removed under the Unification Act of 1967.

The Royal removal didn’t apply to army regimental designations such as the Royal 22nd Regiment, the famous VanDoos.
