Re: Peninsula hospital foundation to raise $2 million to woo new doctors

I am a resident on the Peninsula, and am appalled at the shortage of doctors and the depths to which it seems necessary to sink in order to “attract” new doctors. I have questions about the methods used, and wonder if we have lost sight of the sort of doctors we want.

Where do the wants and needs of patients fit into this picture? Where has adherence to the Hippocratic Oath gone? Where has altruism gone? Why are young doctors being so “needy”?

I counted quite a few “wants” in the article, all of them wants of doctors. It seems they “want” to have everything imaginable in the way of equipment, surroundings, plus holidays and time off whenever they want, and all these as well as living in paradise here on this lovely island in the best country in the world.

Has the world gone truly greedy and mad?

Lastly, for now, how can we put our infinite trust in doctors who put their own wants and lives ahead of us?
