Is gateway a done deal?

If that’s the case we’re going to need a name for this new development and I propose it be called Cross Mall

Well said Mr. Paquette (PNR letters, July 23)! Unfortunately however, it seems that this folly is a done deal.

If that’s the case we’re going to need a name for this new development and I propose it be called Cross Mall.

Now, let me make this perfectly clear. This has nothing whatsoever to do with Larry (Cross, Sidney’s mayor). I just thought that since you have to cross the highway to get there, it would be an appropriate name.

And since I’m talking about crossing the highway, there will soon be a pedestrian overpass built for that purpose. As for the so called gateway, why not just hang a banner on the north side of this overpass saying “Welcome to Sidney by the Sea – TURN LEFT” or something like that. It’ll do the job and save us taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars.
