Check your math on vote

Just to remind Mr. Finley (Two per cent not strong mandate PNR letters May 11). Ms. May, just like Mr. Lunn in the past,  did not receive a majority of support from the constituents.

As for his assertion that the Conservatives were not given a strong mandate with 60 per cent of the people voting against them, perhaps he should realize that approximately 70 per cent voted against the NDP;  80 per cent  against the Liberals and 96 per cent against the Greens.

For the first time since 1917, Canada has elected a majority government without Quebec's help. If Quebec was taken out of the equation, 48 per cent of Canada voted Conservative and the remainder was split between two major parties and a host of fringe organizations.

When people say there is a crying need for electoral reform, it normally means that the party or cause they support has lost (again) and they want to change the rules so they can override others.
