‘Appalling’ behaviour in North Saanich council chambers

Some councillors' behaviour appears inappropriate to a letter writer

I have recently attended three North Saanich meetings where the Sandown proposal has been discussed.

At each meeting there is the inevitable cantankerous group who continue to bombard councillors Conny McBride, Craig Mearns, Dunstan Browne and particularly Coun. Ted Daly with appalling insults.

When will these people realize their obnoxious behaviour is also insulting all the residents of North Saanich who voted for these councillors?

These four councillors campaigned on a platform of fiscal restraint, responsible management and respect for the needs of the residents of the district, and were duly elected by the majority of residents to represent them.

A particularly offensive comment directed at Daly occurred at the swearing in of the new council on Dec. 5. If the man responsible had been ejected by the mayor, it would have demonstrated clearly this type of behaviour would not be tolerated. By her inaction, it appears Mayor Alice Finall condones this type of outrageous conduct, which unfortunately continues.

The councillors of North Saanich and the voters who voted for them deserve better.
