In loving memory ~
It is with great sorrow we grieve the passing of Susan Joy Hirst on February 6th, 2023, in Royal Jubilee Hospital at the age of 76 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her recent partner & love, Ron, and his daughters, Nicole & Adrienne & her 2 children; brother, Brad, ex. Shirley & their 2 children, Ryan & Tamsen; brother-in-law Mike & wife, Bev & their 2 daughters, Tara & Michelle.
Susan was born in Nanaimo, B.C. to her parents Jean & George Waugh. Her childhood was a series of military moves to P.E.I., Sea Island, Metz-France, then Winnipeg, where she initially studied as a nurse...changing her mind, to become a teacher/librarian. It was in Winnipeg she met her husband, Pat, a pilot who went on to have a long career with Air Canada. Eventually, Susan & Pat moved to B.C., creating & building a home on Tsawwassen Beach and later in Ardmore, which Susan finished after Pat passed away.
Susan discovered early on, she had a passion for Ceramic Art and completed a 3-year program at Abbot College in Montreal. She became well known in the Pottery community, particularly on the West Coast, creating hand-built & wheel-thrown ceramics.
Susan's life was also filled with frequent trips, some to Jamaica to visit Pat's brother & family and many adventures with other family & friends. She also took a dedicated interest in greyhound rescue, fostering & adopting several over the years. Sweet 'Topaz' is her last canine companion, now cared for by good friends. Susan really appreciated her diverse group of friends, from the greyhound community, Air Canada family, ceramic community, Panorama Tennis Club and many more.
We know that Susan would want to thank BCCA, Dr. Brooks & associated team, and the Pain & Symptom Management Clinic for their amazing support.
Flowers are gratefully declined but if you wish to make a donation in Susan's memory, please consider the B.C. Cancer Foundation.
