With great sadness we announce the sudden death on September 26th 2018 of Michael (Mike) James Mayo.
Mike was born in Manhattan, Kansas, and grew up in both the United States and Canada. He was an educator, a journeyman carpenter, and a lover of literature and the Delta Blues. Mike was an accomplished musician and proud Veteran of the United States Navy. A graduate of both the University of Lethbridge, Alberta (B.Ed.) and St. Martin's University, Lacey, Washington (M.Ed.). Mike was a true renaissance man.
He is survived by his loving wife Penny (nee Billinghurst); children Susan, Jodi, Charles, Nicole (Kendall) and Robin; mother and stepfather Jody and Jules Rach; mother and father-in-law Janet and Ron Billinghurst; sister Mary Minette Christenson (Ron); sister and brother-in-law Carys and Richard Bailey, nieces and nephews, other family members and numerous friends.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 1319 Mills Road, North Saanich, B.C. on October 31st at 3.30 pm.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mike's name to Kwum Kwum Lelum Program at Songhees Nation, ll00 Admirals Road, Victoria, B.C., V9A 2P6.
