June 25, 1950 - April 15, 2019
Born June 25, 1950 and passed away peacefully at his home in Sidney on April 15, 2019.

John grew up near Ioco, BC on the north side of Burrard Inlet. The three brothers played out doors in and around the forest. When he was six, the family moved to rural Coquitlam. These beginnings gave John a love for the outdoors.

Following in his Dad's footsteps, in the late teens John joined the Royal Canadian Airforce and was a technician based in Gimli, Manitoba. After leaving, he was in construction and later became a prospector in Northern BC and the Yukon.

John had a love for cooking and had various positions. He worked as a cook on a Coast Guard ship and recounted stories of cooking while the ship was pitching and rolling on huge waves in Hecate Strait.

In his middle years he moved to Central Saanich, North Saanich and Sidney. With his love of gardening he fit right in to the gardening culture here. He moved to a boarding house in Sidney in his later years and was a member of the Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans in Canada, Museum Unit 302 in Sidney BC.

John is survived by his brothers Peter, Paul, Michael (Joellen), Bob (Lek), and Dave (Sue), his brother-in-law Steve as well as many nephews, nieces, and grandnieces and a nephew. He has cousins in Harrowgate, England.

Please join family and friends for a Celebration of Life, which will be held on Saturday, June 1 at 1 pm at the ANA club house on 9831 4th Street, in Sidney.
