1944-2017

Denis Allan Pettigrew passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Saanich Peninsula Hospital in Saanichton, BC. Denis was born on October 27, 1944 in Vancouver, BC. He was predeceased by his first wife Marta, his mother Jeannette, his father Allan, his father-in-law Doug and his sister-in-law Linda. Deeply missed by his loving wife of 31 years Vicki, his daughters Lesley (Scott), Stephanie (Mike) and Catherine (Isaiah). He leaves behind two cherished grand-children Sam and Serafina. Survived by siblings Paulette (Shel), Suzanne, David and Marc (Pam), mother-in-law Helene, brother-in-law Jeff and many nieces and nephews. Denis served in the RCAF for 22 years as an air traffic controller and went on to become the detachment commander for security at the Victoria International Airport for which he received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. Denis was an avid sportsman and fan. He coached both swimming and softball, and was involved in youth rowing for many years. Watching his girls and grand-children play their favourite sports was the highlight of his week. Denis loved a good round of golf with family and friends. He enjoyed many friendships and loved spending time with his close friends: Ernie, Lois, Malcolm, Angela, Jim, Gayle, Ian, Al and his numerous security buddies. The family would like to thank Dr. Graham Davidson, Dr. Richard Kennedy, Dr. Jamie Papp and the nursing staff and volunteers in the Palliative Care Unit at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their compassion and excellent care. Denis’s wish was to have a private gathering at a later date. Donations in Denis’s memory may be made to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation.
