In loving memory ~
"Woody"
Anthony (Tony) Martin Woods passed away unexpectedly on October 16, 2024, at the age of 67, surrounded by all his siblings. The third of six children, he was truly the heart of our family and will be deeply missed.
Tony grew up in Brentwood Bay and was an avid racquet sport player enjoying badminton, tennis and table tennis. After high school, he attended Camosun College and Pacific Vocational Institute in Burnaby where he successfully completed and received his Red Seal Certification for Cooking. Tony enjoyed a culinary career, which spanned 41 years - respected for his dedication and work ethic. He worked at Victoria's Empress Hotel and Oak Bay Beach Hotel, before moving to Sidney where he lived most of his life. He helped launch many local restaurants and was affectionately known within the community as "Woody."
His sharp memory, especially for people and places, made him an exceptional navigator and storyteller. Tony's warmth and genuine interest in people left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Kind, generous, and accepting, Tony treasured his family and friendships. He was a beloved, fun loving uncle who brought much joy to his many nieces and nephews, earning himself the nickname "Uncle Jenga" at family gatherings. Tony delighted in seeing the next generation of great-nieces and nephews growing up within the family, as family meant everything to him.
In his later years, Tony enjoyed life at Kiwanis Windward Village, where he took great pride in his "cozy wee cottage" and cherished the sense of community there. He found joy in lending a hand and lifting others' spirits, treating his neighbours as friends. Lovingly remembered for his empathetic, caring nature, and infectious happiness, Tony consistently reminded us of what is most important in life - our connection with others.
We will miss his contagious enthusiasm and laughter. It comforts us to know he is now with Mom and Dad somewhere on a beach with his toes in the warm sand sipping on a "coldie".
So raise a glass and check in on a neighbour or friend in memory of Tony.
