January 23, 2019
Alfred passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 23,

2019 at the age of 85. He is survived by his two children, Norbert and Rita

(Jim) and his grandson Bryce.

Alfred was born in rural Poland and is one of eight children. His parents are of German descent and moved to Poland with the promise of farmland. The family later returned to Germany after WWII. Alfred  immigrated to Canada in 1955 at the age of 21 and met and married his wife Renate in Winnipeg in 1957. Alfred loved the beauty of Vancouver Island and eventually moved with his wife to Sidney in 1979.

When Alfred was not out fishing, he could be found in his garage fixing a motor or building a trailer.  He was a welder by trade and found  a sense of accomplishment in anything he built with his hands. Alfred and Renate loved to travel and spent many months touring North America in their motor home and travelling abroad. He loved his neighbours and was fondly nicknamed 'Hercules' for his amazing strength and 'German Shephard' for his watchful eye on the neighborhood.

A special thank you to all the staff on the 5th floor of Victoria General

Hospital for providing exceptional care.

He will be missed.
