Died peacefully at Saanich Peninsula Hospital with wife and best friend

of 54 years Ruth, son Jonathan and daughter June at his side. Alex graduated from Edinburgh University in 1944 and served in the Royal Army Medical Corps with the Parachute Battalion in Palestine from 1945-1948. He worked in the National Health Service in northeast England, married in 1953 and in 1955, Ruth and Alex set out on their great Canadian adventure! Alex worked in Innisfail, Alberta for the next 5 years where both children were born and after a holiday in B.C in 1959 they decided to "go west" and moved to Sidney in 1960. He practised medicine and general surgery until 1996 and was instrumental in keeping a hospital on the peninsula. Alex enjoyed his many years at both Resthaven and Saanich Peninsula Hospital and was a quiet hero to many.

Alex was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by wife and best friend

Ruth, son Jonathan (Carolyn), daughter June (Blair), grandchildren Cody, Grace and Dani (and their mother Nina)and grandchildren Ned and Alexandra. Also brother Frank (Betty), sisters-in-law Kath(John), Nan and their families in the U.K. and many cousins and wonderful friends both in Canada and the U.K.

Heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital acute and extended care units for their excellent care and to his physician, Dr. George Spencer.

A celebration of life service for Alex will be announced. In lieu of flowers, if desired, a memorial donation can be made to the charity of your choice or the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation or B.C. Aviation Museum.
